At the District 9 Class AA Track and Field Championships on Friday, Karns City's Xandria White led the way with a first-place finish in the 200 meters (26.51 seconds) and second in the 100 meters (12.47) and the long jump (16 feet, 2 inches).

The Gremlins' girls team won the team title with 83Z\x points, edging Elk County Catholic (79), which had won the title six consecutive years. Moniteau finished seventh (33) and Union was eighth (25).

The top two finishers in each event qualify for the PIAA Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.

Union's Tiffany Corle crushed the girls javelin mark at the district finals with a toss of 142 feet, 7 inches, besting the previous mark of 127-8 by Redbank Valley's Cara Dinger in 2005.

Moniteau's Amy Gladd (800, 2:21.20) was the other girls champion from the area while teammate Kendra Hall placed second in both the shot put (34-10) and discus (104-1) to be another state qualifier in multiple events.

In the boys' final, Karns City's Chris Harmon (800, 1:59.25) and Union's Brett Moore (triple jump, 42-10¾) were the area champions in their respective events.

In team scoring, the Gremlins were third with 53 points behind ECC (87) and Clarion (71). Union placed eighth with 30 points and Moniteau was 11th with 22.
