Worth the wait
The large group of Butler youngsters who lined up to get into the swimming pool at Butler Memorial Park on opening day, Saturday, June 8, 1968, had a long wait at the front gate. But the relief from the heat for the children home from school was well worth it. A total of 2,444 pool lovers used the facilities during the opening day weekend. The pool closed in 2005 after being run in 2003 and 2004 by the Butler County Family YMCA. They, like the city before them, found repairs and other problems with the aging facility were too much of a drain.
