Leroy Andrew Zimmerman
Leroy Andrew Zimmerman, 92, of Hampton Township died at UPMC Passavant Hospital on Friday.
Born Jan. 13, 1915, in Elysburg to Emanuel Felix and Mary Hanna Sevison Zimmerman.
Mr. Zimmerman was a manufacturing entrepreneur and founder of Crown Metal Specialties of Millvale, which he owned and operated for more than 30 years.
He is remembered by his family for his mechanical genius, his command of the English language, his quick wit, his great sense of humor, his strong hands, and his smile. His varied personal interests included bird feeding, gardening on his small farm, and winemaking with grapes and blueberries that he grew. He was an animal lover who owned many dogs and horses during his lifetime.
He was a veteran who served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Grace Donaldson Zimmerman. After a brief two-month courtship, they eloped to Winchester, Va., on May 14, 1941, where they began a loving life together as husband and wife and best friends. Also surviving are his son, William E. (Patti) Zimmerman of Lancaster County; three daughters, Nancy L. (William) Donovan of Saxonburg, Kathy "Kay" S. Zimmerman of Louisville, Ky., and Karen "Pooz" L. Zimmerman of Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren, Brandi, Rich, Sean, Tim, Carrie and Matt; and three-great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Pauline Bodman of Elizabethtown and Melvin Zimmerman of Delaware.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Warren, and Dave Zimmerman.
