Former supervisor wins new seat in Connoquenessing Twp.
CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A former township supervisor knocked off an incumbent Tuesday to earn a spot on the Republican ballot in November.
Jack Kaltenbaugh, a former township supervisor who served on the board for 12 years, defeated Ray Kroll in Tuesday's primary.
Kaltenbaugh, who currently serves on the township's uniform construction code appeals board, won the Republican nomination with 305 votes, according to the unofficial voting results.
Kroll finished second, earning 151 votes. Sandra Cox finished third with 103 votes.
Voting turnout in the township was low, with 904 of 2,668 registered voters casting ballots Tuesday.
There was no Democratic candidate on the primary ballot for the six-year position.
Kaltenbaugh said Tuesday night that he was pleased with the results but did not expect to receive as many votes as he did.
Kaltenbaugh said the township's road crew, road conditions and township spending are the main concerns that pushed him to run for the seat.
Kroll, who is currently the township's road superintendent, could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
