JACKSON TWP — Brian Warheit was on cruise control — and Seneca Valley's perfect section record was in jeopardy.

Butler's senior right-hander limited the Raiders to five hits — two of them infield singles — and one run through five innings while throwing only 60 pitches. Warheit took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

But he never got out of the sixth frame as Seneca Valley struck for six runs and a 7-3 baseball victory Wednesday at Raider Field.

The win was the Raiders' 16th in a row and capped the program's first 12-0 section record.

"His fastball was coming in high and was moving inside on our hitters," SV coach Eric Semega said of Warheit. "High fastballs are enticing to hitters, but that movement was preventing us from getting solid bat on the ball.

"Once his pitches started going flat in the sixth, we were able to get to him."

Warheit threw 24 pitches and surrendered five hits in the sixth inning before he was relieved.

"I couldn't see what was happening with the baseball," Butler coach Dave Florie said. "But Seneca Valley is undefeated in this league for a reason. That team showed a lot of moxie in coming back the way they did."

Winning pitcher Cory Mazzoni, who hit his sixth homer of the year in the fourth inning, opened the Raiders' sixth with a single to left. Andrew Fornadel walked and Tyler Bream reached on an infield single to load the bases.

SV's Gabe Grinder drilled a two-run single to left to tie the game. Pinch-hitter Kevin Rohm hit a grounder to second base, but the flip to shortstop Darren Blakley for the force at second was bobbled and dropped, loading the bases again.

Ken Walrond followed with a two-run single to center and Mike Eonta hit a two-run double into the left-field corner to complete the rally.

The win marked the third time this season that the Raiders rallied from a deficit in the sixth or seventh inning — but the first time with Mazzoni on the mound.

"We've always had the lead when Cory's pitched," Semega said. "I think this is good for us, the way we were tested today and responded.

"Our kids felt a little pressure today. They wanted that 12-0 record badly. They know it's something they can talk about 10 years from now."

Mazzoni struggled in the first inning, allowing a run-scoring single to Butler's Jordan Roycroft, then hitting Bill Coleman with a pitch to load the bases. But he struck out Dallas O'Donnell and got Warheit to ground into a force play to escape further damage.

"I didn't have command of my pitches early," Mazzoni said. "I had to fight through it. It was a matter of throwing strikes and letting my defense help me out."

Mazzoni threw 113 pitches in a complete-game effort, 82 for strikes.

After Mazzoni's homer tied the game, Butler grabbed a 3-1 lead in the fifth. Dustin Uhlman hit a one-out double and scored on a Roycroft single. An intentional walk to Coleman was followed by a run-scoring single from O'Donnell.

"Our kids played good baseball today," Florie said. "All I wanted to see this year was improvement in the team from start to finish. I saw that and I'm encouraged by it."

The Raiders had five seniors in uniform for their final home game: Jim Burry, Grinder, Matt Johnson, Rohm and Eric Harvey.
