4:23 p.m. Monday — Dorothy McDonald, 90, of Butler lost control of her car while backing up in a parking lot at Center and Brown avenues. The car struck a ticket collection box and a fence pole.McDonald, who was shaken up but not injured, told police that the crash occurred when the car's brakes did not work.Monday — Police charged Justin Green, 24, of Butler with bad checks for bouncing three checks at Friedman's market on West Brady Street. The checks totaled $416.24.8:45 p.m. May 1 — George Gerstner Jr., 25, of Lyndora was arrested for possession of a small amount of marijuana in the parking lot of a West Jefferson Street convenience store. Police said they found four baggies containing a combined 19.4 grams of suspected marijuana inside Gerstner's car.
1:14 a.m. Sunday — Shawn Garvey, 25, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Old Plank Road. Police also cited Garvey for speeding and a stop sign violation.2:10 a.m. Saturday — Anthony Frye, 36, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI at Sixth and Hansen avenues.
Saturday — Eight people were arrested for driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint on Route 356 in Butler Township.The Butler County District Attorneys DUI Task Force conducted the detail in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's campaign targeting drunken drivers.Officers stopped 491 vehicles and, in addition to the DUI arrests, charged five people on drug-related counts and cited three people for underage drinking. Additionally, officers issued 19 traffic citations and 25 traffic warnings.
6:45 a.m. Monday — A pickup truck driven by Bonnie Carrodus, 58, of Summerville, Jefferson County, crashed into a guardrail after a front tire blew out as the vehicle traveled on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.Monday — About $3,000 in currency was stolen from a safe in the scale house at Quality Aggregates on Deer Road in Marion Township. The theft occurred between 2 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday.April 30 — An unknown thief between 8 and 11 p.m. stole the registration sticker off a pickup truck at the Toasters Tavern parking area on Route 68 in Chicora. Jay Hilderbrand of Chicora owns the pickup.
Monday — Police reported that $2,833 in tools, equipment, cash and other items were stolen since Jan. 19 from a garage at the Fairview School Road home of Jason Williams in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.Among the stolen property was $150, a 24-inch Stihl chainsaw, an 8-horsepower Briggs & Stratton generator, Dewalt laser transit, an air drill and a half-inch air impact wrench.
