CHERRY TWP — Nick Morrow didn't waste any time helping the Warriors forget their last loss.

After all, it came a mere two hours earlier.

The Moniteau baseball team lost to Rocky Grove in the continuation of a game suspended by lightning and rain on Tuesday, leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh in a 6-3 loss.

But Morrow took the ball for the regularly scheduled game against NorthClarion just a few minutes later and fired a three-hitter, throwing a mere 76 pitches en route to a 6-2 win.

"Not bad. We'll take it," said Moniteau coach Ross Martin. "He's a senior and we look to him to bail us out of trouble."

Morrow used only six pitches to get two outs in the seventh Wednesday against Clarion-Limestone to record a save.

There was no need for a save on Thursday as Morrow cruised through the first three innings with a perfect game and finished with seven strikeouts and one walk in seven innings.

Only one of the runs he surrendered was earned.

Moniteau was aggressive at the plate and on the base paths.

The Warriors stole eight bases, and leadoff hitter Dakota Campbell had three of them.

Travis Shaffer singled home two runs in the fifth inning to turn a tight game into a 5-2 lead. The Warriors tacked on another insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Cruz Eshenbaugh.

Moniteau had a chance to jump on NorthClarion starter Jordan Ochs early, but it fell victim to its unique field.

Moniteau's baseball field has no outfield fence, to the dismay of Eshenbaugh and Zane Slater.

Eshenbaugh hit a shot to right field in the first inning that would have been out of most ballparks. Instead, it landed in the glove of NorthClarion right-fielder Brandon Bauer some 380 feet away.

Two batters later, Slater hit a fly ball down the left-field line that was hauled in by left fielder AdamOchs in front of the portable toilets.

"I'm sure it's more frustrating for the kids more than anything," Martin said.

"Next time, we'll set up a ground rule for the port-a-potty," he added, smiling.

With the win, the Warriors are 6-3 overall and in the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference and are very much alive for a playoff spot.

"I told them we're not coming out of here today 0-2," Martin said. "We weren't happy with the way things went (in the first game). We had some opportunities that we did not cash in. We didn't play this one fantastically, but we got the job done, and that's the bottom line."
