Glomb nets 27 Ks in Mars' marathon win

Monica Glomb keeps going and going and going.

The Mars senior softball pitcher tallied 27 strikeouts and gave up only one hit in a 4-0, 14-inning win over host Hampton on Thursday.

"She was definitely getting tired," Mars coach Mike Del-Duca said. "I was getting Jamie Fiorina warmed up in case we needed her."

Fiorina helped the team in another role with her bases-loaded single in the top of the 14th inning that proved to be the difference for Mars (10-5, 9-5).

Hampton's Kelsey King tallied her team's lone hit in the 13th inning.

Glomb now has 194 strikeouts this season, an average of 13.8 per game.

In other games:

• Amanda Sheppeck doubled and homered to spark Knoch to a 7-2 victory over Indiana.

• Karns City (9-3, 8-1) stranded 11 runners and gave up four unearned runs in a 4-2 loss to undefeated Rocky Grove.

Samantha Pyle and Brianna Bowser each had a single and a double for the Gremlins.

• Erin Ferguson, Sam Volponi and Jamie Laughner each had two hits, but Slippery Rock fell at Sharon, 4-1.

• Trisha Hollerman singled and doubled twice and Jessica McWilliams doubled three times, but Butler lost to Shaler, 16-7.
