D. Ruth Allen, 84, of West Kittanning died Thursday at the ACMH Hospital, Kittanning.

Born Jan. 26, 1923, in Freeport, she was the daughter of James and Dorothy Harkelroad Scwietering.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and she loved to dance, sew, travel and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also sang in the community choir in Ford City.

Surviving are a son, William "Bill" Schrecongost of West Kittanning; two daughters, Margaret "Peggy" Altmire of Butler, and Carol Stiles and her husband, Paul, of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Young and his wife, Mildred, of Columbus, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Daniel James "D.J." Allen; and three brothers.

Ruth Allen, who died Thursday, March 29, 2007, will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of memorial services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kittanning, with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.
