2 crash victims were engaged

CHERRY TWP — Two of the three people killed in a two- vehicle crash Friday night were engaged.

The other two people involved in the crash were brothers.

Killed were John Spinetti, 28, and his fiancee, Angela Barnhart, 24, both of New Kensington, Westmoreland County, and Brian Benscoter, 26, of Hilliards.

The sole survivor, Robert "Robbie"Benscoter, 28, of Boyers, remains hospitalized in Pittsburgh. Family members said he is expected to recover from major injuries.

"We were told by doctors that he should make it," Brenda Hughes of Concord Township, a cousin, said Saturday afternoon.

"It's amazing someone survived this wreck,"said Butler County Deputy Coroner Dennis Trzeciak. "It was such a violent collision."

It occurred about 9 p.m. on Route 308. The vehicles hit head-on.

While state police continue to search for answers, investigators suspect speed could have been a factor in the crash in Cherry Township.

Trzeciak pronounced the three victims dead at the scene about 10 p.m. Autopsies on Saturday determined all three died of multiple massive injuries.

Amedical helicopter landed at the West Sunbury fire hall soon after the crash and flew Robert Benscoter to Mercy Hospital.
