3 dead in Friday night crash on Route 308
CHERRY TWP — Three Butler County residents died Friday night when their cars collided on Route 308.
Butler state police report Brian Benscoter, 26, of Hilliards, John Spinetti, 28, of Butler and Angela Barnhart, 24, also of Butler, were killed.
A passenger in Benscoter's car, Robert Benscoter, 28, of Hilliards was seriously injured. He was flown by medical helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday morning.
Police report Brian Benscoter's Dodge Neon was northbound on the highway when it traveled into the southbound lane, striking Spinetti's southbound Chevrolet Cavalier head-on at 9:02 p.m. Barnhart was a passenger in Spinetti's vehicle.
None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
Chief Reid Campbell of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, who was at the scene, said Saturday morning Robert Benscoter was found lying in a ditch alongside the road when emergency crews arrived.
Police did not release any further information about the accident, including its cause, Saturday morning.
