William H. Hess
William H. "Bill" Hess, 83, of Saxony Health Care Center, Saxonburg, formerly of Cupps Road, Renfrew, died at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday at the Saxony Health Center.
Born June 25, 1923, in Indiana, Pa., he was the son of Harry A. Hess Sr. and Mildred Barndollar Hess.
He was a self-employed carpenter and was a member and former trustee of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was past president of the Butler Cubs and a former trustee of Butler Elks Lodge 170. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Hess was a veteran of the Navy, having served in World War II as a pilot. He flew torpedo bombers from aircraft carriers in the Atlantic Ocean to search for enemy submarines.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Carla) Rearick of Renfrew; three stepchildren, Gary Rauschenberger and his wife, Karenlynn, of Butler, Mrs. Tony (Lynne) Miller and Mrs. Roger (Linda) Avent, all of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren; a brother, Thomas R. Hess and his wife, Marge, of Richfield, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Ann "Dolly" Fleischer Hess, who died March 7, 1991, and a brother, Harry A. Hess Jr.
