Josephine Ripper
Josephine E. Ripper, 91, of Evans City died Tuesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless Township.
Born Aug. 6, 1915, in Evans City, she was the daughter of Antonio and Josephine Catanese Schiavo.
Mrs. Ripper retired from the Evans City Elementary School, where she had been a cafeteria worker and then a teacher's aide.
She was a member of St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Christian Mothers of the church. She was also a member of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Evans City Historical Society and was a former member of the Sweet Adelines.
She was an avid gardener, enjoyed baking and cooking and loved music.
Surviving are a daughter, Natalie Price and her husband, Robert, of Butler; a son, Christopher E. Ripper and his wife, Stacy, of Renfrew; three grandchildren, Adam Price and his wife, Erin, of Evans City, Chris Hinchberger and his wife, Robin, of Meridian and Melanie Holtz and her husband, Jason, of Benson, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren, Shane, Jordan, Joel and Matthew Hinchberger and Jessica Holtz.
Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Charles Groves of West Virginia, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Ripper. who died Dec. 20, 1990; three brothers; and four sisters.

Main St., Evans City. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, 417 E. Main St., Evans City, with the Rev. William Ritzert officiating.
