Vo-tech students qualify for Ford skills competition
BUTLER TWP— A team at Butler Vocational-Technical School has qualified for the Ford-AAA Student Automotive Skills Competition.
James Callen, a junior from Moniteau High School, and Colt Hay, a senior fromKnoch High School, were the vo-tech's highest scorers on a written automotive test and qualified for the state competition.
Dale Umstead, automotive technology instructor, said it has been more than three years since a team from the school qualified. Ten teams compete at the state level for a spot at the national competition.
At the state level, teams will be given 90 minutes to diagnose problems in a vehicle and fix them. The students will work on a 2007 Mercury Marquis.
Northland Lincoln Mercury has loaned the vo-tech a car for the students to prepare on.
State competition is May 1 in Philadelphia.
