In 1971, the Post Office Department was transformed into the U.S. Postal Service. To mark the occasion, a new, commemorative, eight-cent stamp was issued. Looking it over in June of that year are, from left, Butler Postmaster Donald Crouch, county commissioners Leon Gant Jr. and Chester Roe, and Butler Mayor Frank LeFevre. The times are changing again for the post office as the new "forever" stamp went on sale April 12 for 41 cents. On May 14, the first-class rate goes up to 41 cents.
