ADAMS TWP — Don't worry. Be happy.

That attitude might be easy for Monica Glomb to exude, but not for the hitters she faces.

The Mars senior softball pitcher recorded her second no-hitter of 2007 in a 1-0 win over Hampton on Thursday. The victory included 16 strikeouts and four walks.

Glomb also no-hit Kittanning in a 2-0 win March 30.

"She was hitting her spots every single time," said Mars coach Mike DelDuca, who will lead the Planets following the birth of head coach Michele Goodworth's son. "And we haven't played in warm weather yet and it's hard to get in a groove."

But that's exactly where Glomb found herself on Thursday after striking out the first six batters she faced. Fourteen of the first 15 outs recorded against Hampton (5-2, 4-2) were strikeouts.

She struck out the side in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings.

Off-balance swings were a common occurrence from Hampton's lineup, with first baseman Annie Martucci taking the last of them on strike three to end the game.

"No worries," Glomb said of her mindset when she steps inside the circle. "I just go out and do it."

"We know Monica's good," said Hampton coach Ron Feddell. "She can no-hit a team any time she takes the mound."

If it weren't for Glomb's great performance, Hampton pitcher Lis Schulz would have been the game's star.

She struck out nine and didn't walk a batter in six innings.

Schulz did surrender five hits, but the game's lone run was not scored on a base hit.

In the bottom of the third inning, Mars' Kaitlyn Cubarney struck out, but reached first base when Talbots catcher Erin Leaver couldn't handle the pitch and the ball bounced to the backstop.

With one out, Cubarney reached second base on a wild pitch.

Glomb hit a ground ball to second baseman Amanda McGaughey, who had the ball glance off her glove.

McGaughey recovered in time to get Glomb at first base, but the speedy Cubarney came around to score what proved to be the winning run.

"That's the thing. The winning run (reached base) on a passed ball," said Feddell. "Lis moves the ball around a lot. She might not get all the strikeouts that Monica gets, but she's pretty good."

Mars (5-2, 4-2) lost to Hampton on April 4. The Planets entered Thursday's game behind both the Talbots and Knoch in the Section 5-AAA standings.
