Sturgeon

Arthur W. Sturgeon, 90, of Country Side Assisted Living in Mercer, formerly of Fom-bell and Porter-sville, died Wedn-esday at Sharon Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1916, in Fombell, he was the son of Herbert and Margaret Wagner Sturgeon.

He was a lifelong, hardworking dairy farmer and gardener with more than 500 peach trees. He sold produce at the farmers market in Ellwood City for more than 55 years and was known as the "Peach Man."

He also worked several years as a butcher for the A&P grocery store and had worked at U.S. Steel, both in Ellwood City.

Mr. Sturgeon was an active member of the Portersville Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.

In his later years, he enjoyed traveling to visit his son in Alaska and his daughter in Oregon and their families. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Nagel Sturgeon, whom he married April 18, 1939; two sons, and their wives, Ronald and Marcella Sturgeon of Anchorage, Alaska, and Tim and Kathy Sturgeon of Fombell; and a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Kamperman of Bend, Ore. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Judd Sturgeon and Kirstie Ostberg of Alaska, Paige Weatherman and Jason and Rachel Kamperman of Oregon and Thad, Wade and Blane Sturgeon of Fombell and 16 great grandchildren.

<B>STURGEON </B>— Friends of Arthur W. Sturgeon, who died Wednesday, March 14, 2007, will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Marshall Funeral Home</B>, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City. Visitation also will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Portersville Presbyterian Church, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Opp officiating.Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the Portersville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 126, Portersville, PA 16051.
