Thomas Lesniewski, principal of Deer Lakes Middle School, has been named Pennsylvania's 2007 Middle Level Principal of the Year in the MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals Principal of the Year Program.A Butler resident, Lesniewski served as principal of Riverside High School before coming to Deer Lakes in 2003. Previous to that, he was the assistant principal at Knoch High School and a social studies teacher at Cathedral Prep, Alfred-Almond, and Greenville High Schools. He completed his administrative internship at Greenville High School.Lesniewski was responsible for rewriting the job descriptions for all positions in the school district to meet ADA standards. He was also responsible for the administration of a high school alternative education program, implementation of PSSA Remediation Program and the Senior Project Program, and as committee chair for PSSA Attendance Incentive Award.His love of sports and children was the incentive for his taking on the responsibilities of coaching girls' and boys' basketball, as well as coaching junior varsity football, assistant track and field coach, and junior varsity girls' softball. He was also the adviser of the "Model United Nations," and District Administrator of School to Work involving strategic planning, student assemblies, student expulsion hearings, and SAP teams.Lesniewski will be honored at the PAESSP State Conference Oct. 21 to 23 in Harrisburg.———Winners at the
