Butler County's great daily newspaper

R.W. McDonald and Sons

Over the years, Butler has seen its share of businesses come and go. Stores such as Gaylord's, G. C. Murphy, Zayre's, Fisher's Big Wheel, Hills, Troutman's, Ames and Montgomery Ward were once familiar to Butler residents, but now are just memories.

By contrast, R.W. McDonald and Sons, a well-known business in Butler since 1945, continues to be respected. Instead of fading away, it has continued to grow.

This is due largely to the fact that R.W. McDonald installs and services what they sell, and they do so competitively. In this age of mega conglomerate businesses, the quality service that was once an integral part of most businesses is now an endangered commodity.

Owners Lee and Jan McDonald carry on their father's legacy by continuing to foster growth throughout the decades of R.W. McDonald's existence.

At one point, three buildings housed specific departments of the business. That was until the McDonald brothers decided to combine their operations into one facility.

The building, which once served exclusively as R.W. McDonald's warehouse, was transformed by making major renovations. The departments were integrated in 1995 to form one business headquarters.

Currently in the renovated building at 1667 N. Main St. Extension, Route 8 North of Butler, is a retail showroom for appliances, furniture, mattresses and televisions, as well as a warehouse and the base for shipping and receiving operations.

The new showroom takes up 20,000 square feet. It is an open showroom used to showcase furniture, mattress sets and appliances. Cubicles are reserved for televisions and surround-sound audio systems where shoppers can relax in a comfortable sofa or recliner to experience the audio/visual systems.

R.W. McDonald and Sons offers a full line of high quality brand name merchandise in all departments at the lowest prices available. Prices are kept at minimum levels by a large inventory and by collaboration with a marketing group that supplies R.W. McDonald with competitor's pricing so they will not be undersold.

If you find a name product offered elsewhere, R.W. McDonald will match or beat it.

Major brand name appliances include Frigidaire, Whirlpool, GE, Amana and Maytag, just to name a few. England, Lane, Legacy and Liberty are some of their major furniture brands. The mattress line includes Sealy, Simmons, Stearns & Foster and Tempur-Pedic.

A few audio/visual name brands that you will find at R.W. McDonald are JVC, LG, Sony, Toshiba and Zenith.

So, if you are shopping for appliances, furniture, mattresses or audio/visual equipment, R.W. McDonald can provide the best possible pricing available, without exception.

Experienced individuals staff R.W. McDonald; some have been with the business for 25 years or more. From salespeople and installation specialists to repair and delivery personnel, the staffs reputation is commensurate with the company's reputation.

Management is continuously providing educational opportunities to employees on the latest technologies and techniques used in the industry to provide the best possible service to the public.

Financing is offered through R.W. McDonald's credit department, which also offers a rent-to-own option. Regardless of how or what you choose to buy, the staff is there to provide product information, installation, and maintenance and repair services.

With 30,000 square feet of warehouse space, McDonald and Sons is able to fill most orders within hours. If an item is out of stock, they will have it shipped immediately, assuring prompt delivery.

If you are shopping for high quality furniture or appliances, you don't need to look any further than R.W. McDonald and Sons. Their sales and service is second to none. That's why they have been in business for more than 60 years and probably will be for at least another 60.
