Edward D. O'Donnell, 73, of Ojai, Calif., formerly of the Chicora area, died Sunday after a sudden illness.

During the Korean War, he was a naval photographer aboard the USS Kearsarge.

He was a 52-year resident of Ventura County, Calif., where he originally was stationed in 1955 as a photographers mate 2nd class at the Pacific Missile Test Center, Point Mugu, Calif.

After receiving an honorable discharge, he was a civilian contractor with Photosonics and a member of the Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers.

He had lived in Camarillo, Calif., for 30 years and was a salesman for Allstate Insurance. He attended St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church and was a longtime member and past grand knight of the Camarillo Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of the American Legion and an active member of the Amateur Radio Relay League.

In 1987, he retired to Ojai and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Oxnard, Calif., and an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church. In 1996, he organized their annual St. Patrick's Day dinner and was the chief corned beef and cabbage cook until his retirement last year.

While in Ojai, he began a second career as a courier for Antech Diagnostics and as an agent with the Camarillo Office of Troop Real Estate.

Surviving are his wife, Winsome; a son, Dan O'Donnell of Santa Monica, Calif.; daughters Sister Elizabeth O'Donnell of the Dominican Sisters Mission in San Jose, Calif., and Jeanne Marie O'Donnell of Northridge, Calif.; stepsons, David Green of St. Charles, Mo., and Dan Green of Chino Hills, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Debbie Williams of North Albany, Ore.; and six grandchildren.He also is survived by his former wife, Dorothy O'Donnell of Trona, Calif.; sisters, Mrs. Otto (Mary Anne) Schaffler of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Harry (Gertrude) Blair of Butler, Jeanne Shawhan of Ellicott City, Md., and Mrs. Greg (Rita) Mills of Poolesville, Md.; and brothers, Bob of Montrose, Colo., and Ken of Frederick, Md.He was preceded in death by a brother and a brother-in-law.

<B>O'DONNELL </B>— Amemorial Mass and reception was held today at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Ojai.A funeral Mass and burial will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and St. Joseph Cemetery in North Oakland.
