Donald H. Harkus, 73, of Butler, died Wednesday at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Born Feb. 10, 1934, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Harry G. and Anna Bakisa Harkus.

He was a veteran of the Air Force during the Korean conflict, and was the co-founder and past president of Dectile and Harkus Construction in Butler.

He was also a member of St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Jean Fleeger Hibbs Harkus, whom he married July 14, 1993; a son, Donald H. Harkus of Butler; two daughters, Deborah A. Harkus of Reston, Virginia, and Mrs. Tony (Desirée A.) Giammarino of Poway, Calif.; a stepson, Michael E. Hibbs of Karns City; three sisters, Mildred Karnseld of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Charles (Olive) Grant of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Paul (Bonnie) Capcarra of Lancaster, Pa.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice C. Vietmeier Harkus, who died March 21, 1991; and also by a stepson.

<B>HARKUS</B> — Friends of Donald H. Harkus, who died Wednesday, February 21, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Monday at St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian.Cremation services provided by Geibel Funeral Home.The bereavement committee of St. Fidelis Parish will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to conduct a parish prayer service.
