2 students from county qualify for state bee
Two eighth-grade students have qualified for the state Geography Bee.
Samuel Cleary, a student at Butler Catholic School, and Frankie Copelli, a student at Butler Junior High School, will have a chance to compete later this month.
Cleary is the son of Thomas and Christine Cleary. Copelli is the son of Barbara and Angelo Copelli of Butler.
To qualify for the state bee, students in grades four to eight participated in a bee at the school level. The winner from each school then took a qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geography Society.
The top 100 scores were selected to compete March 30 at Shippensburg University. The winner there will receive $100 and a trip to national finals.
The state winner will compete at the national finals in May in Washington, D.C., for a $25,000 college scholarship.
