Despite suffering preliminary losses on Thursday, Butler's Josh Pascazi and Seneca Valley's Ryan Scheller rebounded to earn first-round consolation victories Friday at the WPIAL/PIAASouthwest Region Wrestling Championships at Norwin High School.

Pascazi and Scheller were among eight Butler County wrestlers trying to move on to the second-round consolations, but the remaining six were eliminated by losing their second match of the tournament.

Pascazi (152 pounds) decisioned Hampton's Steve Van Atta 6-4 while Scheller (189) eked out a 9-8 decision over Hempfield's Zach Shoff.

Pascazi will face Bethel Park's Cory DelMastro and Scheller was scheduled to square off against Chartiers Valley's Matt Wilps in the second-round consolations Saturday morning.

To qualify for the state meet, Pascazi and Scheller must win four more matches Saturday.

The Raiders had four other qualifiers fall out, three by one point.

Nate Cully (125) lost to Bethel Park's Anthony Bonaccorsi 1-0, Pat Coyne (145) lost to Franklin Regional's Andrew Farbarik 8-7 and Zach Eckstrom (285) lost to McGuffey's Mike Piszczor 3-2.

Dave Kovach (160) was pinned by Indiana's Josh Stiles in 4:48.

Knoch freshmen Dylan Leslie (103) and Grayson Hixon (112), each dropped their first-round consolation matches as well.
