• The Slippery Rock girls basketball team will face Mercyhurst Prep in a District 10 Class AAA semifinal playoff at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Slippery Rock University's Morrow Field House.

Tickets will be on sale from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. today and Wednesday at the high school's main office.

• Union's girls basketball team will face Elk County Catholic in a District 9 Class A semifinal playoff at 7 p.m. tonight at Brookville High School.

The Butler County Community College men's basketball team hosts Montgomery- Takoma Park (Md.) in a 7 p.m. game today at the BC3 Field House.Winner of the game enters the Region XXTournament.The Pioneer women ended their season at 18-6 Sunday with a 67-45 loss to Caldwell Tech.

The Grove City College men's basketball team accepted an invitation to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Southern Championship Tournament.The Wolverines (16-12), who won the President's Athletic Conference with a 60-58 victory over Washington & Jefferson College Saturday, will be the No. 8 seed in the eight-team tournament.They will visit top-seeded Penn State-Behrend (19-8) at 8 p.m. Wednesday. This marks Grove City's first trip to the ECAC tournament since 2003 and its sixth overall.Grove City has qualified for the postseason 10 times since joining the NCAA in 1956.

PITTSBURGH — Veteran left wing Gary Roberts has waived his no-trade clause so the Florida Panthers can deal him to the Pittsburgh Penguins, his agent said today."He waived the no-trade portion of his contract, he waived that last night," agent Richard Curran told The Associated Press from his home in Devon, Pa. "I would expect there would be an announcement later this morning about a transaction between Pittsburgh and Florida."Curran would not speak about other terms of the deal, including who or what the Penguins were planning to send to Florida in return for the 40-year-old veteran.Penguins officials did not immediately return calls for comment.
