BC3 wins basketball tourney
Knoch High School graduate Ryan Ziacik scored 17 points to help lead the Butler County Community College men's basketball team to an 88-75 win over West Virginia Northern Community College in the championship game of the latter's tournament on Sunday.
Butler High product Blake Anderson added 16 points and Cory Doty led the Pioneers (12-12) with 23 points.
BC3 defeated Jefferson County Community College, 99-82 on Saturday in the semifinals, with Kevin Scott scoring 32 points, Keith Wynn 24 and Doty 18.
Doty, Scott and Anderson all made the All-Tournament Team.
• Erroll Robinson scored 13 points and Joseph Vines added 12, but the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team was routed by Clarion University, 76-59 on Sunday.
The Rock (5-22, 2-10), which trailed 45-36 at halftime, was out-rebounded 40-26.
• SRU's women's basketball team ended the season with a 76-74 loss at Clarion as My'Kea Cohill converted a three-point play with 2.2 seconds left for the deciding points.
The loss marked the fourth in a row for The Rock (9-17, 3-9) and was the team's fourth PSACWest defeat by the margin of three points or fewer. Amanda Nero scored 22 points and added seven assists for SRUwhile Chere' Marshall had 15 points and Nikki Presto 10.
The Rock finished in last place in the PSACWest.
Andi Rose won the 55-meter hurdle event with a meet-record time of 8.15 seconds to lead the Slippery Rock University women's indoor track and field team to the PSAC championship, held this past weekend in East Stroudsburg.Rose also ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team, which set a school record time of 3:54.82. The foursome included Freeport graduate Lacey Cochran, Slippery Rock High product Melissa Sopher and Jessica Sackin.SRU's men finished fourth.
