Mary C. Schmiedel, 81, of Mars, formerly of Richland Township, died Monday afternoon at the UPMC Passavant hospital in McCandless Township.

Born in Pittsburgh, May 30, 1925, she was the daughter of James and Beatrice Carey Powers.

She was a member of St. Richard Roman Catholic Church in Richland Township. She also belonged to the Auto-Go-Campers of North Hills, the Richland Township Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Hampton Township AARP.

Her husband, Ralph G. Schmiedel, whom she married Jan. 21, 1946, died May 19, 1988.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Jean) Coleman of Bairdford and Mrs. William (Patricia) Rooker of Valencia; two brothers, Robert Powers of Breezewood and James Powers of Phillipsburg; four grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
