Mae Elizabeth Binkerd Bailey, 89, of Fredericksburg in Perry Township, Armstrong County, died at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the ACMH Hospital, Kittanning, after a long illness.

Born in Millers Eddy in Perry Township, April 18, 1917, she was a daughter of Robert Criswell Binkerd and Cora Terwilliger Binkerd Oswald.

She was a Baptist.

Mrs. Bailey had attended elementary school in Millers Eddy and graduated from East Brady High School, traveling from Millers Eddy by row boat and then train to school each day.

She served in the Army for three years in the United States and also was stationed in Japan for five years. She then was a secretary for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C., until she retired in the late 1970s.

She was a member of Bradys Bend Historical Society, Armstrong County Genealogy Club, National Headquarters of the Women's Army Corps Veterans Association and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0402.

After her retirement, she moved back to Millers Eddy, where she cared for her elderly mother until her death.

She married Roy H. Bailey on June 10, 1980, in Miami, Okla., and they made their home in Millers Eddy until it was destroyed by fire on Feb 23, 1999.

He survives along with four nephews, Robert Bishop and his wife, Janice, and William Weibel and his wife, Nanette, all of Karns City, and Chris and Gary Binkerd, both of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandnephews; and six grandnieces.

She also is survived by a stepson and two stepdaughters, Earl A. Bailey and his wife, Pamela, and Kathleen Bailey Beilstein and Eileen "Teen" Bailey Easley, all of Karns City; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Erna Binkerd of Detroit, Mich.; and a number of step-grandnieces and step-grandnephews.

As the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her twin siblings, Earl Binkerd and June Binkerd Bishop Weibel; and a brother, Robert D. Binkerd.

<B>Bailey</B> — Friends of Mae Elizabeth Binkerd Bailey, who died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Van Gorten pastor of Martinsburg Community Church in Bruin, officiating.Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
