So you've got the winter "blahs," eh? I can't say that I blame you one bit; especially since we were lulled to sleep by that little rodent Phil earlier in the month proclaiming an early spring.

What are we supposed to do for fun, though? The past three weeks saw record cold temperatures and wind chills that would make Britney put some clothes on (or even wear a hat now that she has no hair!)

Maybe we need to take a cue from the good folks in Bismarck. That's in North Dakota in case you're wondering. You know, just one state "up" on the map from South Dakota?

The people (I'm assuming there is more than one person from North Dakota) got together and made more than 8,900 snow angels at one time. This is about 5,000 more than the previous record held by those fierce, frigid and frozen freaks from the Michigan Technological University if you're keeping score at home from your cozy, comfortable couch.

The students from Michigan vow revenge, though. I am wondering if the Marine Biology Department brought an octopus if that would count as four angels.

Being no fan of winter myself, this begs the question "what were they thinking?"

Why would anyone in their right mind organize such an event, and more importantly, why would nearly 9,000 people show up in 10 inches of snow to make a snow angel?

I've accidentally made snow angels when I fall in my backyard while getting more firewood for the wood-burner. Of course, the words used while I was slipping and falling were less than angelic.

Edna Arvidson of Bismarck said, "It's fun and it puts us on the map. People think there's nothing going on up here."

Well, Edna, this feat proves it.

Just the fact that 8,900 people got together and flapped their arms wildly (almost as if they were on fire, oddly enough) for a minute proves that the only thing to do in North Dakota is to create a bigger wind chill factor than the one God blessed you with.

Think about the amount of energy expended to create additional wind, not to mention the unnatural "ripple" effect on the grounds where this gargantuan gathering met.

Obviously by now, I've angered someone from North Dakota. Don't worry, it's my job, and by the time they get ready to punch me in the nose, their arms will be flapping up and down like an angel rather than jabbing like a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robot.

The real angels, of course, are the rescuers who navigated Mount Hood earlier this week in an attempt to rescue three climbers who fell while attempting to scale the mountain. Climbing Mount Hood this time of year is probably not too smart, given the conditions of Mount Hood during the winter. But the angels found those three and their dog alive.

Maybe next year, these guys should visit Bismarck. I hear there's a group of nice people hoping to add to their Guinness Book of World Records angel making group.
