Swim coach's status clouded
JACKSON TWP — Tom Donati's status as head coach of the Seneca Valley varsity swimming teams has been unclear for more than a week.
Neither Donati nor SV's boys swimming team was present at the Raiders' meet Feb. 15 at Butler.
The girls team did compete at Butler and was coached by Donati's assistant, Tom Fletcher.
Donati has not been available for comment since Sunday night, when he confirmed that he had been suspended from coaching the boys and girls teams. He did not discuss the reasons that led to his suspension.
The Seneca Valley School District released a statement Thursday through its communications director, Linda Andreassi.
It read, "The district is currently investigating allegations of improper conduct related to the boys swimming team."
It is unknown whether Donati will coach Seneca Valley's swimmers at next week's WPIAL Class AAA championships or if the boys team will compete at the event.
"It is premature to make any statement," said Seneca Valley School Board president Dean Berkebile. "It is going to take some time to sort things out. Not dodging, just being realistic."
Donati, who is a middle school teacher in the Seneca Valley School District, is in his 10th year as head coach of the high school's swim teams.
