Moniteau teams end season with playoff losses

Moniteau's varsity basketball teams saw their seasons end on the road Tuesday night.

The Warrior boys suffered a 56-51 loss at Redbank Valley while the girls were defeated at Curwensville, 56-46. Both games were first-round District 9 Class AAplayoff matchups.

The girls were held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed 27-7 at halftime.

"We couldn't buy a hoop,"said Warriors girls coach Mark Yeager. "We had good looks, but just had the ball roll around the rim and out."

Dani Struble scored 27 points for Curwensville (20-5), including her team's only trey. Jackie White added 15 points.

"Struble scored 15 points in the first half,"Yeager said. "We did a better job offensively in the second half and held them to eight points in the third quarter.

"When we needed stops in the fourth quarter, we couldn't get them."

Maura McCaslin scored a career-high 19 points for Moniteau (7-16), including five 3-pointers.

Redbank Valley 56, Moniteau 51 — The Warriors fell behind by five points in the second quarter and struggled at the foul line all night.Josh Loos paced Moniteau with 15 points and 15 rebounds, but the Warriors sank only 8 of 19 free throws. Brock Reed paced four Redbank players in double figures with 13 points.Reed added 15 rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-9). Moniteau (13-11) suffered 32 turnovers to Redbank's 16.
