Raymond W. "Dub" Hill, 85, formerly of Butler and Homosassa, Fla., died Friday at the Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg.

Born Sept. 15, 1921, in Cranesville, Erie County, he was the son of Omar and Gladys Eckley Hill.

He graduated from Conneaut Valley High School in Conneautville, Crawford County, in 1939.

Mr. Hill enlisted in the Army Air Corps Jan. 24, 1944, and proudly served his country as a staff sergeant. In recognition of his service as a tailgunner, he received the Air Crew Member Badge, the Aerial Gunner Aviation Badge with six bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster. He was honorably discharged Sept. 28, 1945.

He was a Protestant and was a member of the Western Crawford Masonic Lodge.

He retired in 1983 as a yard master and brakeman for the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad after for 30 years.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Frances Platt Hill, whom he married Aug. 1, 1941; a son, Ronald R. (Siwilai "Joy") Hill of Chiang Mai, Thailand; a daughter, Sharen F. Lewis of Butler; four grandchildren, Dr. Joseph E. (Laura) Lewis of Wintersville, Ohio, Jaci R. Accarpio of Berlin, Conn., April E. (Susan Holecombe) Lewis of Wethersfield, Conn., and Amber A. (Jeff) Niles of New Castle; and nine great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Corey, Anthony, Max, Kelsey, Tatum, Sloane, Dominic and Tess.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Louise Diehl of Cranesville.

<B>HILL</B> — A memorial service for Raymond W. "Dub" Hill, who died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Concordia at the Orchard, 1312 N. Main Street Extension.Private burial will be at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa, 8831 W. Bradshaw St., Homosassa, FL 34448.Arrangements are being handled by the by <B>H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME</B>, Pittsburgh.
