IN BRIEF
Regardless of the outcome of the Butler boys basketball game at New Castle tonight, the Golden Tornado cannot qualify for the WPIALplayoffs.
If Butler wins tonight and North Allegheny defeats North Hills, the Tornado, North Hills, Seneca Valley and New Castle all would tie for the fourth and final playoff berth in Section 3-AAAAwith 4-8 records.
The WPIAL's four-way tiebreaker rule states that the team with the most wins against the other three advances to postseason play. Seneca Valley would have four wins in that scenario, Butler and New Castle three each, North Hills two.
AButler win over New Castle tonight would end the Red Hurricanes' run of 14 consecutive playoff appearances, the longest active streak in the WPIAL.
