Holt

Harold A. Holt, 80, of Middleburg, Pa., died Thursday at his home with his family following a battle with cancer.

He was born April 19, 1926, in Marion Center, the son of Verner A. and Eva Jane Walker Holt. He was married Aug. 7, 1947, to Sarah Vida Hill. They recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.

He was a 1944 graduate of Marion Center High School.

He was inducted into the armed services Sept. 11, 1944, receiving his basic training at Camp Croft, S.C. In 1945, he joined the Big Red 1, 1st Division, 18th Infantry, 3rd Battalion, I Company. He was wounded twice and received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart with two oak clusters.

He attended Pennsylvania State University, graduating in 1950 with a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics.

He first worked as a dairy farmer in Indiana County, then in the feed milling business.

He started with the Pennsylvania Cooperative Extension Service, serving from 1959 to 1969 as assistant county agent in Huntingdon County and from 1969 to 1986 as a county agent in Snyder County. Following retirement, he served with the Northeastern Farm Credit Board.

He was an active member of the Paxtonville United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities, including adult Sunday school teacher.

He served on the school board while in Huntingdon.

He was active in the local 4-H and FFA programs. He belonged to American Legion Post 52.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three sons, Ted Holt of Allentown, Tom Holt of Kountze, Texas, and Tim Holt of Cranberry Township; three daughters, Jane Holt of Los Altos, Calif., Judy Bourne of Pennsylvania Furnace, and Joyce Staley of Belleville; 30 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a granddaughter.

<B>HOLT</B>— Friends of Harold A. Holt, who died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, will be received from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Paxtonville United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with the Rev. Calvin F. Morgan officiating.Friends will be received at the Chapel at Marion Center Memorial Cemetery, Marion Center, on Tuesday before an 11 a.m. committal service with military honors.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of the following: Paxtonville United Methodist Church, Missions Program, P.O. Box 275, Paxtonville, PA 17861, or a charity of the donor's choice.Arrangements were handled by the <B>Hummel Funeral Home</B>, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, Pa.
