SRU drops 2 on road

The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team closed out Saturday's contest against host Shippensburg on a 13-4 run, but fell just short in a 61-59 PSAC-West loss.

Kenny Smith had 17 points and Glenn Reepmeyer had 15 points and 11 rebounds, his seventh double-double of the year, to lead The Rock (4-15, 1-3).

SRU, which dropped its fourth two-point loss this season, had a 27-20 lead in the first half and 27-24 at the break.

However, Shippensburg (12-11, 3-2) scored 22 of the first 29 second half points to take a 46-34 lead. The Rock trailed by 11 points, 57-46, with just over six minutes to play, but couldn't rally the whole way back.

CCBC97, Butler County Community College 64 — Blake Anderson scored 19 points and Kevin Scott added 15 for BC3 (8-10, 2-6) in a losing effort against the Community College of Beaver County.The Pioneers host a women's and men's basketball doubleheader against CCAC at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Nijha McNeely scored 13 points, but SRU dropped a 69-56 decision to host Shippensburg Saturday.Nikki Presto added 12 points and a team-high six rebounds and Chere Marshall added 10 points.SRU 8-10, 2-2) fell into a third-place tie in the conference with California (Pa.), behind Shippensburg (3-1) and Indiana (3-1).SRU led 14-4 after three minutes and 21-11 with 12:30 left in the first half before the Red Raiders stormed back.
