Cranberry trims cost of new recreational park
CRANBERRY TWP — Construction on the township's new park, Graham Park, will begin this summer, but with a price tag of about $3 million less than originally projected.
Tim Zinkham, township supervisor of engineering services, told the township supervisors Thursday night the start-up construction costs on the new 115-acre park have been trimmed from a projected $9.3 million to about $6.2 million.
The park is divided into three campuses, a football area, a soccer area and baseball fields area. A number of passive activities such as walking trails also are planned.
Graham Park will join the Community Park off Route 19 and North Boundary Park as the township's third municipal park.
Construction is slated to begin on the fields in June or July. The football fields section should be ready for play in fall 2008. The baseball and soccer sections of the park would be ready for play in spring 2009.
Cost savings come from changes in construction practices and materials.
