Butler grad sparks Pioneers
Butler graduate Samantha Karns scored 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Wednesday night as the Butler County Community College women's basketball team defeated CCACSouth, 61-53.
Shannon Onderko added 13 points and Butler graduate Michelle Ritchey contributed 10 for the Pioneers (10-3, 3-1).
Natalie Wallace, a New Castle graduate, made her debut with BC3 and scored five points.
The Pioneers play at Pitt-Titusville Saturday.
Slippery Rock (women) 64, Edinboro 61 — SRU(7-9, 1-1) managed to win despite failing to sink a field goal in the final 14 minutes of this road game Wednesday night.The Rock did sink 14 of 19 free throws during that stretch.Nijha McNeely had 11 points and 11 rebounds for SRUwith Nikki Presto adding 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists. The Rock sank 18 of 27 shots — 66.7 percent — during the first half in building a 42-26 lead by intermission.Edinboro fell to 8-8 overall, 0-2 in PSACWest play.Jessica Schake had nine points for SRU.The Rock hosts Indiana (Pa.) next Wednesday.
Edinboro 87, Slippery Rock (men) 59 — Glenn Reepmeyer scored a season-high 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but could not prevent The Rock (4-13, 1-1) from suffering its third straight loss.Jamar Scales added 10 points and five rebounds for SRU. Edinboro (11-5, 2-0) had five players score 10 or more points.
