Raymond J. Hartwick
Raymond J. Hartwick, 81, of Gates, N.C., formerly of Parker and Pittsburgh, died at 10:55 p.m. Friday at Ohio Valley General Hospital at McKees Rocks after becoming ill suddenly late Thursday evening at a family home in Pittsburgh.
He and his wife had moved to North Carolina in June, and were visiting children and relatives in the area when becoming ill Thanksgiving evening.
Born in Feb. 6, 1925, Pittsburgh, he was the son of William Raymond and Marie Lindenfelser Hartwick.
A veteran of World War II, he served in Alaska and the northern Pacific as a second class petty officer with the Navy.
He was employed many years by E. L. Wiegand Co. of Wilkinsburg, and later served as supervisor of security for the Carnegie Museum, retiring after nine years' service.
He was a very active member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church at Parker, and was a member and former president of the Young at Heart of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Magdalen Zydel Hartwick, whom he married July 23, 1947; three daughters, Carol Walker of Virginia Beach, Va., Mrs. David (Linda) Latsch of Gates, N.C., and Jean Hartwick of Crafton; six sons, Gary Hartwick of Evans City, Daniel Hartwick of Hooker, Joseph Hartwick of Bridgeville, Phillip Hartwick of Beaver Dam, Wis., Timothy Hartwick of Ambridge, and Thomas Hartwick of Coraopolis; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine Thieret of Florida; three brothers, Joseph and Robert Hartwick of Pittsburgh, and William Hartwick of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, William and Raymond, and a brother.

Burial will be at Allegheny Cemetery, Butler Street, Pittsburgh.The family suggests memorials to Disabled American Veterans at either the Butler or Pittsburgh chapters.
