'Happyness' caps record year of hits for Sony
LOS ANGELES — The uplifting story of a homeless man and his young son beat all comers its first weekend at the box office, taking in $26.5 million.
"The Pursuit of Happyness" capped a great year for Sony, which set a new high for domestic grosses by a single studio. Sony's 2006 hits included "The Da Vinci Code," "Casino Royale," "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" and "Click."
The top 10 movies at theaters Friday through Sunday, with studio and gross, as compiled Monday are:
