Women's group marks anniversary

Members of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women recently gathered for a holiday dinner and celebration of the organization's 125th anniversary.

The national group, which advocate's women's rights, was founded Nov. 28, 1881, by 17 female college graduates.

Members have included Coretta Scott King, former Congresswoman Patsy Mink, Brig. Gen. Wilma Vaught and Dr. Johnnetta Cole. The organization now has more than 100,000 members, 1,300 branches and 500 college and university partners.
