Jennifer Garvin recently received the inaugural Thomas V. Gibson Award for Creativity and Innovation from Penn State University, Auxiliary and Business Services, Housing and Food Services.Garvin has been employed at Penn State for Housing and Food Services, Commonwealth Campuses, since February 1998 as the manager of program development.The daughter of Ronald Lutz of Prospect and Elizabeth Scarnato of Butler, she resides in Pleasant Gap with her husband, Larry Garvin. She has a daughter.———

More than 125 students in the <B>Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School</B> have been chosen to participate in this year's production of "The Nutcracker" to be performed at the Benedum Center through Dec. 23.Among the students participating are <B>Rachel Thomas</B>, 12, of the Mars School District, and <B>Kayla Zboran</B>, 10, of South Buffalo Elementary School.Tickets for the performances start at $14. As part of its recent fundraising awards dinner, St. Anthony School Programs presented <B>Passavant Memorial Homes</B> with the 2006 Opportunity Award. The award was presented to Passavant for its commitment to providing services to meet the ongoing needs of people with disabilities.<B>Rick Senft</B>, CEO and president of Passavant Memorial Homes, accepted the award on behalf of the organization.———

The <B>Butler Beauty School </B>held its second annual Santa's Snippers Cut-a-thon Dec. 3, raising $652 for the Victim Outreach Intervention Center.Professional stylists from area salons volunteered to give haircuts for $5, with proceeds benefiting VOICe.Money was also raised through a Chinese auction held during the event.Among the customers were <B>Sarah Fennewald</B> and <B>Colleen Daugherty</B>, who donated their hair to Locks of Love, an organization that makes wigs for children with hair loss due to medical conditions.Participating salons included Hair Indulgence, Hair Specialist, J.C. Penney Styling Salon, Sherry's Hair Studio, the Butler Beauty School, Philip Pelusi and Fantastic Sam's.———<B>The Meridian Volunteer Fire Department's Women's Auxiliary</B> has announced that <B>Paula Burtner</B> of Butler was the winner of its recent $500 gift certificate drawing held Dec. 5.
