SRU teams split weekend games
The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team had six players in double figures to defeat West Chester 96-89 in overtime Saturday.
Jamar Scales had 21 points, Brandon Thompson added 19, Kenny Smith had 15, Glenn Reepmeyer had 14 with a team-high 16 rebounds and Joe Vines and Matt Schaefer added 10 points each.
The Rock outscored West Chester 37-30 in the second half to force overtime, then scored 18 points to pick up the win.
Shawn Werdt had 22 points for West Chester while teammates Donnell Butler added 20 points and Aaron Williams 16 points and 13 rebounds.
On Sunday, The Rock (2-4) fell to Millersville (6-1) by an 81-65 score, despite 19 points and eight rebounds from Reepmeyer.
Smith added 15 points and Thompson 13 for The Rock, which saw its two-game winning streak snapped.
Women's Basketball
Nikki Presto scored 18 points and Amanda Nero added 13, but the SRU women's team fell to West Chester 68-63 Saturday.
Amanda Crojnacki added seven points, seven rebounds, and three assists for The Rock.
Dominique Lewis led West Chester (1-3) with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Katie Kline added 14 points.
On Sunday, SRU rebounded with a 46-41 victory over Millersville (3-2), thanks to 15 points from Dana Stewart and 11 more from Nijha McNeeley, plus a team-high eight rebounds.
SRU (2-4) scored the final five points of the game to earn the win.
