WIDENING THE WAY

In 1969, workers were widening two miles of Route 8 south of Butler. The $1.2 million project transformed the road into a four-lane highway between the Main Street Viaduct in Butler and Armco Hill. During construction, traffic was detoured over the Picklegate Crossing in Lyndora. About 25 employees of Trumbull Construction and Asphalt Co. completed the project that fall. That site recently saw more changes with the construction of the General Richard Butler Bridge. The new span replaced the old Main Street Viaduct. Work was completed in early November.
