KARNS CITY— The high school concert choir students sang in the holiday season at the Walt Disney World Candlelight Processional and Massed Choir Program at Epcot during the Thanksgiving break.
About 30 students traveled by bus from Karns City to Epcot for a workshop, some sightseeing and the performances.
The students, led by director Dorina Aigner, participated in a two-hour workshop that included recording a DVD and getting tips from professionals.
The group performed on the American Gardens Theater Stage in front of an international audience of theme park guests. They performed 13 holiday arrangements accompanied by the Walt Disney World orchestra and led by a celebrity narrator reading the Christmas story.
In addition to rehearsals and two performances, they visited MGMstudios and Disney's Magic Kingdom.

Sherrie Mazurek, a teaching assistant at Mars Home for Youth, was honored by the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV recently with the Spirit Award.The award, presented by the Intermediate Unit's Labor and Management Committee, was created to recognize a support staff individual who exemplifies excellence on the job, caring involvement and involvement in the community.Mazurek was nominated by her colleagues and students.She lives in Jefferson Township with her husband, John. She has two daughters and a granddaughter.———
Wendy Warburton of Butler recently enrolled in the American Quarter Horse Association Horseback Riding Program.Program participants track time spent riding and submit their results for possible awards.———Two teachers have been honored by the National Council of Teachers of English.
James Strickland, an English professor at Slippery Rock University, was awarded the Council of English LeadershipExemplary Leadership Award. Strickland authored several books on teaching English and composition. He also serves as a mentor and editor.
Bob Dandoy, an English teacher at Karns City High School, was given the National Teacher of Excellence Award from the council's Secondary Section.
