Carl E. Jones
Carl E. Jones, 72, of Cabot died Sunday at Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights, Allegheny County.
Born Oct. 4, 1934, in Brackenridge, he was a son of Clarence Jones and Freda Audrey McConnell Jones.
He was founder, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Penn United Technology in Jefferson Township.
Jones was a member, founding elder, Men's Mission worker for Habitat for Humanity and Sunday School teacher at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America.
He was a founding board member of the SEBCO Pool Association in Jefferson Township, founding board member of South Butler Midget Football and of Bethany Christian Services.
He was a 50-year member of the Jefferson Grange, served as a board member and six-term president of the South Butler School District from 1959 to 1994, founding board member and eight-term president of Butler Area Vo-Tech School from 1970 to 1994, board member and director emeritus of the Community Development Corporation of Butler County, former board member of Butler County Chamber of Commerce and the South East Butler County Planning Commission, an instructor at Lenape Vo Tech in Ford City and a member of the NRA.
Mr. Jones was the 1992 Master Entrepreneur of the Year in the Western Pennsylvania Region, awarded by Ernst & Young and Inc. Magazine. He also was awarded the Geneva College Leadership Award.
He enjoyed farming, woodworking, quad riding and reading.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn L. Weckerly, whom he married Aug. 29, 1953; his mother of Cabot; two sons, David C. (S. Jean) Jones and William A. (Karen) Jones, both of Cabot; two daughters, Mrs. Jerald R. (Marjorie L.) Purcell and Mrs. Ronald W. (Rebecca L.) Shaw, both of Cabot; three brothers, Dwight (Alice) Jones, Roy Jones and James (Barbara) Jones, all of Cabot; four sisters, Mrs. Robert (Myrna) Montgomery and Mrs. Joseph (Freda) Olean, both of Cabot, Marion Jones of Freeport and Eunice Schoettker of Cabot; eight grandchildren, Sean D., Richard W. and Corey J. Purcell, Aaron J. and Rachel K. Shaw, Jacob C., Hannah L. and Bethany L. Jones; and two great-granddaughters, Sennett M. and Ella F. Purcell.
Preceding him in death were his father and a sister, Virginia Crist.
