To teach first graders about America's first holiday, Miss Margaret Holbach treats her class to an authentic Thanksgiving feast. This picture, taken Nov. 21, 1968 at the Center Township School, features the class incorporating their lessons about Pilgrims and American Indians with the giving of thanks. Nowadays, the school cafeteria serves its traditional turkey and stuffing meal a week before Thanksgiving, allowing the individual classrooms to celebrate the holiday their own way. Many classes have Thanksgiving feasts, plays and concerts. There is also a schoolwide food drive for needy families.
