Shorthanded Pioneers fall

Playing with four players on the court in the final seconds, the Butler County Community College men's basketball team dropped a 79-78 decision to the Geneva College junior varsity Tuesday night.

The Pioneers (1-2) dressed only seven players for the game. Alan Jackson fouled out with four minutes remaining, Ryan Ziacik fouled out with 2:30 on the clock and Blake Anderson fouled out with 17 seconds to go.

Still, Cory Doty got off an open shot from the top of the key before the buzzer, but misfired.

Anderson paced the Pioneers with 20 points while Kevin Scott had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Doty contributed 17 points and 10 assists, Ziacik 17 points and Jackson seven rebounds.

The BC3 basketball doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at the college's field house has been canceled.
