SIGN OF THE TIMES

— To celebrate students returning from summer break, the Butler Senior High School installed a marquee board in September 1970. The board was provided by the 1969-70 student council and made its debut Sept. 11, 1970. Supervising the installation are, kneeling, from left, John Angell, junior class president; Barry Garber, senior class president; and Chris Romney, student council president. Standing are Bruce Hutchinson, student council vice president; and James Fultineer, principal. This model now sits in front of the Butler Intermediate High School. Today, an electronic marquee is displayed at the high school. With the old marquee, the students were in charge of changing the letters. Now, a school secretary can change the marquee without ever leaving her office. She has an icon on her computer that helps her design, schedule and program the sign and can control what is announced and for how long.
