Reid J. Karenbauer, 63, of East Butler died Friday evening at his home after a battle with cancer.

Born April 3, 1943, in Butler, he was the son of the late Martin and Dorothy Stelghner Karenbauer.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Heckett MultiServe, and he formerly worked at Spang as a heavy equipment mechanic.

A veteran of the Army, he served in the military police during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of Saint Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, where he served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, usher, and was past member of the parish council.

He was one of the first emergency medical technicians for the East Butler Ambulance Service.

He was a life member and past president and captain of the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Butler, the R.C. Men's Club, and the International Operating Engineers Local 66.

He was a classic car enthusiast. He especially loved his 1978 International Scout.

He enjoyed fishing at Moraine State Park and Erie. He was also an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Holly Karenbauer, whom he married Sept. 14, 1963. They were married 43 years.

Also surviving are three sons, Douglas R. and his wife, Teresa, Karenbauer of East Butler, Brian and his wife, Penny, Karenbauer of West Sunbury, and David E. Karenbauer of East Butler; two brothers, Dale and his wife, Marge, Karenbauer of Butler, and Donald and his wife, Pat, Karenbauer of Herman; a sister, Joyce and her husband, William, Reep of Butler; five grandchildren, Wyatt, Kyria, Dawson, Brianna, and Katrina Karenbauer; and a number of nieces and nephews

<B>KARENBAUER</B> — Friends of Reid J. Karenbauer, who died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin McKnight officiating.Burial will be in St. Wendelin's Cemetery.
