Mary E. Arner
Mary Elizabeth Arner, 84, of 119 Glacial Till Road, Mercer Township, died at 5:50 p.m. at Slippery Rock Personal Care Home.
Born Jan. 17, 1922, in Cherry Township, she was the daughter of James Russell and Anna Katherine Reeder Carothers
She worked at Slippery Rock State College, now Slippery Rock University in the 1940s. She was a homemaker and with her husband owned and operated the family business, Arner's Saw and Mower Service, until their retirement in 1983.
She was a Presbyterian.
She was a great cook and enjoyed canning. She lived for her family.
She is survived by her husband, William Milton Arner of Slippery Rock, whom she married May 28, 1948; a son, James and his wife, Linda, Arner of Slippery Rock; two daughters, Janie and her husband, Bob, Montgomery of Harrisville and D. Jeanne Arner of Butler; and a brother, Donald Carothers of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ryan Weigle, Christopher Arner, Jessica Weigle Bosco, Melissa Sue Arner, and three great grandchildren, Dylan, Abigail and Julia.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister and a brother, James R. Carothers.
<B>ARNER</B> — Friends of Mary Elizabeth Arner, who died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, officiating.Burial will be in the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
