Mary Osburn Prokop

Mary Osburn Prokop, 88, of Brockway, died Tuesday at the Dubois Nursing Home in Dubois.

Born Oct. 21, 1917, in Dubois, she was a daughter of Fred D. and Lelia C. Sloppy Osburn.

Mrs. Prokop was a 1936 graduate of Dubois High School. She began teaching in Sandy Township, Clearfield County, in 1939, after graduating from Duke University in Durham, N.C.

She served as a substitute teacher for more than 50 years in the Brockway School District.

Mrs. Prokop was a member of the Brockway Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Presbyterian Women, the Women's Club and served as the Breakfast Class Sunday School teacher.

She was a lifetime member of the Duke University Alumni Association, and a member of the Friends of the Library at Mengle Memorial Library, where she served in all areas.

She was the 1995 Brockway Woman of the Year and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Prokop is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Mary Ann) Richards of Butler; a sister, Mrs. B.W. (Ann) Fletcher of St. Augustine, Fla., and a grandson, Darrin F. Richards of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Prokop, whom she married Feb. 21, 1941, and who died on July 15, 1993; two infant daughters, and a grandson.

<B>PROKOP —</B> Friends of Mary Osburn Prokop, who died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the <B>CARLSON-SHUGARTS FUNERAL HOME, </B>1033 4th Ave., Brockway. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lynn Illingworth officiating. Burial will be in the Morningside Cemetery in Dubois.Memorial contributions may be made to the Mengle Memorial Library, 324 Main St., Brockway, Pa. 15824; or the Brockway Presbyterian Church, 817 Main St., Brockway, Pa. 15824.
